Fiat is to introduce its first fully electric van in 2020, the Ducato Electric BEV, which the company claims will have no trade-off in terms of payload and performance.
The electric version of the Ducato will be available to pre-order later this year. Initially, Fiat will operate a pilot scheme with this version of the van with major clients to better grasp customers’ specific needs.
In addition, the Ducato will be the first fully electric Fiat Professional model, designed and developed by the FCA Group.
The Italian manufacturer has yet to announce details on range, payload and power. There is also no word on how much it will cost.
Fiat’s announcement follows on from rivals Peugeot and Citroen, which announced electric versions of their respective large vans, the Boxer and the Relay, at the Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham in April. The Ducato shares a basic platform with both French vehicles.
