Isuzu has unveiled what the brand describes as ‘ the most sophisticated and authentically capable version’ of its D-Max pick-up.
Revealed in prototype form at the CV Show in Birmingham, the D-Max XTR is pitched at owners who will want to use their pick-up for leisure as well as work – especially enthusiasts of off-roading.
Chief among the changes are a bespoke suspension system by specialist Peddars and upgraded brakes. A new front suspension upper arm and redesigned damper units allow longer suspension travel, while the ride height is set higher than a standard D-Max at 25cm.
Performance front brake discs are added, fully vented and slotted for improved heat dissipation and braking. They are operated on by kevlar ceramic front brake pads, and sit behind bespoke 17-inch wheels and tyres. Scorpion All-Terrain Plus tyres wirth a 32-inch diameter are standard, promised to be equally capable on and off road and all year long, but owners can alternatively specify a bespoke off-road tyre.
Aggressively styled
The STR is aggressively styled to match its image, with a bespoke front bumper guard, bonnet protector and headlight frames. Wheel arch extensions a rear bumper and tailgate spoiler complete the body kit while back door mirror covers, black door handles and tinted rear windows are also added.
Also bespoke are the side steps with an angular bar framework and lozenge-shaped infill which acts as a drain point for mud, sand and snow. They are designed to prevent rocks and stones damaging the bodywork and finished in a durable textured black colour scheme.
The interior specification includes heated front sports seats in leather, suede and carbon-fibre with contrasting green stitching. The green colour contrast continues throughout the car.
Isuzu UK managing director William Brown describes the D-Max XTR as “filling a gap in our range, enabling us to broaden our brand appeal.” Dealers are taking orders now, at prices starting from £33,999, with first deliveries expected later in 2019.
