Volkswagen has expanded the EV options in its Transporter line-up by adding electric power to the eight-seat Shuttle and Kombi van versions.

The electric Transporter Kombi is available with a short or long wheelbase, with five seats as standard along with the option to add a sixth. Its drivetrain employs a 65kWh lithium-ion battery with the official driving range quoted at up to 196 miles, and allowing a maximum payload of 896kg.

Long or short wheelbase options are also available for the Shuttle, which has eight seats as standard with the option to add a ninth. It employs the same drivetrain as the Kombi with an official range of up to 194 miles.

Both electric models are supplied with additional standard equipment over their diesel equivalents, including individually controllable heated front seats and a heat pump, improving the battery’s efficiency and therefore range in cold weather, by using waste energy to heat the cabin.

Prices start at £53,404 (including VAT) for the Kombi Commerce Plus, and £56,129 for the Transporter Shuttle Life. Between now and the end of September, Volkswagen is also offering special finance plans – see the website or talk to your dealer for more information.

Also included at no extra cost is the ‘5+ Promise’ warranty and service plan, offering three services, three MOTs, a five-year warranty and five years’ roadside assistance.

Orders recently opened for the diesel versions of the Kombi and Shuttle alongside the Transporter panel van which was launched with both diesel and electric drivetrains.
