Ford has unveiled its Ranger Raptor pick-up – the new performance-focused model in the Ranger trim line-up – with the first vehicles expected to arrive in the UK by the end of Summer.

Developed by the Ford Performance division, the four-wheel drive Ranger Raptor is set to be the first variant in the latest-generation of Ford Ranger models to arrive in the UK, powered by a petrol 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 engine that is also used in the Ford F150 range over in America – capable of 288hp and 491Nm of torque.

The standard Ford Ranger pick-up is planned to arrive later in 2023, which instead uses a 2.0-litre diesel engine. Over the standard model, the Ranger Raptor trim is fitted with a reinforced suspension system and thicker steel underbody protection to handle the more powerful engine unit, and an electronically-controlled active exhaust system that allows the driver to adjust how the pick-up’s exhaust sounds, consisting of Quiet, Normal, Sport and Baja modes.

Using the same ten-speed automatic gearbox as the previous Ranger Raptor model, the 2022 Ford Ranger Raptor has a new anti-lag system keeps the turbochargers spinning for up to three seconds after the driver backs off the throttle to allow quicker acceleration through the corners, and the pick-up has seven selectable drive modes.

On the outside, much of the Ranger Raptor’s exterior design remains the same as the standard range, including the use of the same C-clamp daytime running lights and matrix LED headlights.

The most prominent change features on the front grille, which is now adorned with bold lettering that stretches from headlight to headlight, replacing the traditional Ford logo. ‘Raptor’ branding is found on the rear flanks on the pick-up, as well as the tailgate.

The front bumper is painted black, with a two-tone theme continuing through the flared wheel arches and side skirts to the rear bumper, which features an integrated step pad and towbar. The Ranger Raptor’s 17-inch alloy wheels are fitted with model-exclusive performance tyres to optimise grip in high-speed off-road scenarios.

Inside, the Ranger Raptor features amber ambient lightling that mirrors orange accents on the dashboard instruments and seats. The high-performance pick-up gets a 12-inch infotainment console, the largest available in the Ranger line-up, and a 12-inch digital instrument cluster behind the heated steering wheel fitted with paddle shifters.

Leather-trimmed sports seats trimmed are found in the front and rear, and the Ranger Raptor comes with a ten-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system as standard.

Pricing for the new Ford Ranger Raptor will be announced closer to orders opening later this year.
