Mercedes-Benz is launching a version of its Vito van that the brand says is focused directly on users working in city surroundings.

The Vito Urban Edition comes as standard with a 7G-Tronic Plus automatic transmission to aid smooth progress through traffic choked streets while also improving fuel consumption. Mercedes says that the Vito is the only mid-sized van available with a full torque-convertor auto gearbox.

Also fitted as standard is the Becker Map Pilot navigation system, which includes specific features to aid urban driving, notably recommending the correct lane to be in, and highlighting speed limits.

Finally a reverse camera is offered as standard, the close-range unit capturing the entire area around the tailgate/rear doors, helping manoeuvring in tight spaces and making it easier to spot hazards behind the vehicle such as pedestrians.

The Vito Urban Edition is supplied with the 114 BlueTec diesel engine, which returns combined cycle fuel economy of up to 46.3mpg and CO2 emissions of 161g/km.

Prices for the Urban Edition start from £22,720 (plus VAT) for the Compact version, with the Long variant costing from £23,075 and the Extra-long £23,550. Mercedes-Benz is also offering a 0 per cent finance programme including a £250 deposit contribution.
