Nissan’s latest large van, the all-new Nissan Interstar will hit UK roads early in the new year with prices starting from £32,390 plus VAT, and it will be available with a fully electric powertrain – the first-ever large electric van from Nissan.

The new Nissan Interstar is basically a rebadged Renault Master, so it’s unsurprising that its key performance metrics are basically identical to its Renault cousin. The electric powertrain comes with a 40kWh battery as standard, with the option of a long-range 87kWh battery that offers a driving range of up to 285 miles.

With a maximum public charging speed of 130kW for the 87kWh battery, it delivers up to 157 miles of range in just 30 minutes.

If you’re charging in a depot or at home, the 87kWh long-range Interstar can accept a 22kW charge if you have three-phase power and a suitable AC charger. The 40kWh standard range model can take a maximum AC charge of 11kW, which is all that most homes and business can offer unless they have three-phase power available. Either way, you’re looking at a charge from 10% to 100% in less than four hours.

An upgraded 2.0-litre diesel engine already used in other Nissan models is also available and delivers up to 170hp and 380Nm, and can be ordered with either a six-speed manual or nine-speed automatic transmission.

Features of the new model include a longer load area of up to 3.85mm in the longest wheelbase version, which also incorporates a sliding side door that’s more than 1.3m wide. Cargo space ranges from 10.8m3 to 14.8m3.
