South Korean manufacturer SsangYong has unveiled a new four-wheel drive Musso pick-up for Europe that comes with a sector leading five-year unlimited mileage warranty.

Built on the same architecture as the new Rexton SUV, the latest Musso shares its body-on-frame construction. Over the top of this frame is a five-seat crew-cab body, the only style available.

The new Musso can transport a full-sized Euro pallet on its load deck, is rated at more than one tonne in payload weight and has a trailer weight rating of up to 3.5 tonnes that is equal to the best in class.

World-first in ultra-strength steel application

With the high-strength steel construction of its frame, SsangYong claims that its new pick-up is stiffer than its competitors, achieved by using 1.5Gpa-grade ultra-strength steel – a world first – and featuring 81.7% high-strength steel. Such a high percentage of stronger steel not only gives greatly improved body strength but also reduced weight.

The new Musso is powered by the same e-XDi220 2.2-litre diesel engine found in the Rexton, which delivers a maximum power of 181hp at 4,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 420Nm at 1,600 to 2,600 rpm.  It is available with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic.

Inside, the new Musso is well equipped. Top-spec models feature Nappa leather seats, DAB digital radio and Bluetooth connectivity. All models apart from the entry-level version come with a new infotainment system that includes an eight-inch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and wi-fi mirroring.

Full UK pricing and specification will be announced closer to the car’s local arrival in summer.
