Citroën has announced that it will launch a commercial version of its new Ami – the Ami Cargo Electric – in the UK in 2022.

While the Ami Cargo Electric will be adapted for the UK market, it will remain left-hand drive.

The compact Ami Cargo Electric is designed for fleet and business operators to deliver packages and run services in urban areas, the company says. It features a 5.5kWh Lithium battery pack, connected to a 6kW electric motor for 100% emissions-free driving. The vehicle can be fully charged in just three hours and has a range of up to 46 miles. With zero CO2 emissions in use, Ami Cargo Electric is exempt from current and future Congestion and Ultra-low Emissions Zone charges.

The Ami Cargo Electric is 2.41m long, 1.39m wide and 1.52m tall, and has a turning circle of just 7.20m. The interior has been re-designed from the passenger car version, with the passenger seat replaced by a seven-part polypropylene module that can hold up to 260 litres and 140kg of cargo or goods. This extends the interior storage already available, giving Ami Cargo a total load capacity of 400 litres.

Citroën has added a vertical partition between the driver and cargo area to provide optimum space behind the wheel, which ensures the driver is always protected when out on the road. The vehicle is also fitted with a secondary modular shelf unit capable of holding up to 40kg, which can be converted into a desk when parked. There is also a two-way adjustable floor allowing the vehicle to carry larger items.

Ami Cargo Electric will join the brand’s existing 100%-electric ë-LCV line-up when it arrives next year, which includes the ë-Berlingo Van, mid-size ë-Dispatch and the larger ë-Relay. Citroën will offer electrified variants across its entire model line-up by 2025.

“With more cities across the UK introducing restrictions for conventional vehicles, Ami Cargo Electric will provide businesses and fleet customers with the opportunity to continue their urban and last-mile operations in a practical, sustainable and cost-efficient way,” said Eurig Druce, managing director of Citroën UK.

Launch timings, pricing, specification details and supply arrangements will be announced at a later date.
