Ford has unveiled an additional high-spec Ranger ‘Platinum’ trim, which features exterior chrome accents and luxury interior trimmings.
Follow the success of the premium Ranger Wildtrak trim that has made up a large proportion of Ranger pick-up sales in the past year, Ford has given us a first look at the new Ranger Platinum – an upmarket trim that offers a more luxurious driving experience than the entry-level Ranger ‘XL’ and ‘XLT’ trim grades.
Starting with exterior looks, the Ranger Platinum sports a chrome-finished front grille and roof rails and sits on 20-inch alloy wheels – four inches larger than the standard model’s alloys.
Inside, the pick-up features a new 12-inch digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel, which sits alongside a 12-inch portrait-oriented infotainment screen. The standard sound system is replaced by a premium Bang &Â Olufsen speaker system, and the leather-trimmed seats are electronically-adjustable.
Like the rest of the Ranger line-up, the Platinum is powered by a 239hp 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine and can tow up to 3,500kg. No manual gearbox options are available – instead the Platinum makes use of a ten-speed automatic gearbox as standard, which Ford says it has reconfigured to reduce noise and vibration inside the cabin.
The trim includes parking assistance technology, a blindspot warning system and a 360-degree parking camera.
Prices for the Ranger Platinum will start at around £44k. By comparison, the ‘XL’ trim currently costs just south of £25k and the mid-range ‘XLT’ grade is priced at around £27k. The range-topping Ranger Raptor is more expensive, priced at just north of £48k.
