Toyota has introduced a new two-seat version of the Hilux pickup, giving business users additional secure carrying space inside the cab.
The ninth-generation Hilux launched earlier this year exclusively as a Double Cab, but Toyota’s new factory conversion removes the three-seat rear bench and replaces it with a large, flat load area.
Measuring 1,290mm wide and 640mm deep, the additional space is intended for tools and other equipment that owners may prefer to keep securely inside the vehicle. Access is through the existing rear doors.
Toyota says the conversion doesn’t affect the Hilux’s performance, safety equipment or standard specification, while the pick-up remains compatible with its existing range of accessories.
Potential tax advantages for businesses
Crucially for company users, Toyota says the two-seat conversion allows the Hilux to qualify for flat-rate Benefit-in-Kind taxation and 100% plant and machinery allowance, where applicable.
The conversion is available with both powertrains in the new Hilux range: the Diesel 48V mild hybrid and the fully electric Hilux BEV. The electric model retains permanent four-wheel drive and can wade through water up to 700mm deep.
Commercial vehicle on-the-road prices excluding VAT start at around £37k for the Diesel 48V and just north of £49k for the electric model, with the latter figure including the Government-funded £5,000 large electric van grant.
