In the photo above is the new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, or what we know about it so far.
The next and fourth-generation version of the German giant’s large van is due to be fully revealed sometime in 2027, so since October of last year Mercedes has been taking a life-sized stone sculpture to shows and each time chipping away to reveal a bit more of the new model.
The latest development, displayed at the IAA Transportation show in Hannover, suggests that the new Sprinter will adopt the same front-end styling as recent new Mercedes-Benz models including the VLE MPV, which is also on show at Hannover following its unveiling earlier this year.
There are also suggestions from the sculpture that while offering at least similar capacity as the current model, the next Sprinter will have a more box-like rear but with improved aerodynamics – a crucial factor for electric versions.
Mercedes-Benz had at one time intended to go electric only with the new model but the slowing in transformation to EVs forced a rethink, and the brand now intends to offer two models built on entirely separate platforms with either combustion engines or electric drivetrains. There have been some reports that the electric versions will produce improved ranges over the current e-Sprinter.
Mercedes-Benz has also indicated that the next Sprinter will be offered in as wide-ranging a line-up as the current model, with a variety of lengths and heights as well as chassis cabs with multiple conversion options.
