Isuzu is using the Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham this week to launch two significant updates to its D-Max pick-up range.

The first is the production version of the long-awaited electric D-Max, making its right-hand drive debut ahead of UK deliveries in May. The second is a new 2.2-litre diesel engine, which replaces the outgoing 1.9-litre unit and is due in showrooms this summer.

Isuzu D-Max EV: electric pick-up with over one-tonne payload

The D-Max EV is powered by a 67kWh battery and dual electric motors, producing a combined output of 149kW (203hp). The claimed range is 163 miles on the official government test, rising to 224 miles in city driving conditions.

For operators, the key figures are the 1,060kg payload and 3,500kg braked towing capacity – making this the first fully electric pick-up available in the UK to exceed one tonne of payload while offering four-wheel drive as standard. Ground clearance is 210mm and wading depth is 600mm.

Charging from a home wallbox takes around ten hours for a full charge. At a three-phase public charger, the same charge takes six hours, while a DC rapid charger will take the battery from 20% to 80% in around an hour. The maximum DC charging speed is 50kW, which is lower than many newer electric vans and worth factoring into journey planning for operators covering longer distances between charges.

Two trim levels are available – eDL40 and eV-Cross – in Extended Cab and Double Cab configurations. Both include heated seats, dual-zone climate control, Rough Terrain Mode and a Bi-LED headlight system. Pricing starts from £59,995 ex-VAT for the Extended Cab eDL40, rising to £62,495 ex-VAT for the Double Cab eV-Cross.

The D-Max EV comes with a five-year/125,000-mile vehicle warranty and an eight-year/125,000-mile battery warranty.

Isuzu D-Max diesel: larger engine, more torque

The diesel D-Max gains a new 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine producing 163hp and 400Nm of torque, replacing the previous 1.9-litre unit. An eight-speed automatic transmission is now standard on automatic models, with a six-speed manual remaining available. Fuel economy is 31 to 33mpg on the official lab tests.

Maximum payload on the diesel is 1,205kg – 145kg more than the electric model – with the same 3,500kg braked towing capacity. Wading depth increases to 800mm on the diesel, compared with 600mm on the EV.

The 2026 model year also brings visual updates, including a new front grille design, revised LED headlight accents on DL40 and V-Cross trims, new side steps and a 360-degree surround view camera on DL40 and V-Cross models. New Dunlop tyres claim a 7% improvement in fuel efficiency and a 7% improvement in wet-surface grip. A new driver monitoring system using an infrared camera is standard across the range.

The streamlined range covers Single Cab, Extended Cab and Double Cab configurations across Utility, DL20, DL40 and V-Cross trim levels. Prices start from £33,495 ex-VAT for the Utility Single Cab, rising to £42,995 ex-VAT for the V-Cross Double Cab automatic.

The D-Max 2.2 diesel carries a five-year/125,000-mile warranty and arrives in UK dealers from July 2026.
