Volkswagen is giving its Amarok pick-up the special edition treatment with the launch of the Canyon.

On sale on 1st April the Amarok Canyon will be offered with the 2-litre BiTDI 177bhp diesel engine and FourMotion all-wheel-drive.

There will be 300 units on offer with an eight-speed auto gearbox and the remaining 50 with a six-speed manual. The auto versions will incorporate economy and emissions-enhancing BlueMotion Technology modifications, including low rolling-resistance tyres, Start/Stop and regenerative braking systems.

The Canyon is based on the currently range-topping Trendline trim, but with extras said by VW to be worth more than £8,500.

These include 19-inch ‘Cantera’ alloy wheels, satellite navigation with a six-inch colour touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity, bespoke styling bars and heated leather seats.

Privacy glass, a protective coating for the load area, a matt black roll cover, interior floor mats and front and rear parking sensors are also fitted, while the side styling bars and rear bumper are finished in high-gloss black.

Inside gains Nappa and Vienna leather in two-tone Moonrock (light grey) and Anthracite (dark grey), along with a leather-covered steering wheel and gear knob with orange stitching.

The air vent surrounds are matched to which of the three available exterior colours is selected. Copper Orange vehicles gain matched vents, while those in Deep Black or Reflex Silver models include vent surrounds in Matt Chrome. Indium Grey foil lettering and a Silver under ride guard complete the package.

The Amarok Canyon costs £28,990 (excluding VAT) in manual form or £30,720 for the auto version.
