Renault has confirmed that the production version of the Trafic E-Tech electric van will make its UK debut at the 2026 Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham, ahead of orders opening later in the year.
The new model represents a significant update for the Trafic line-up, moving to a fully electric platform with revised battery options, faster charging capability and expanded digital features.
Platform and powertrain
The Trafic E-Tech is based on a dedicated electric “skateboard” platform, and the range will include two battery options:
- A long-range version with a claimed range of up to 280 miles
- A smaller battery, arriving later, with a range of up to 217 miles
The Trafic E-Tech is one of the first LCVs to transition to more advanced 800V electrical architecture, which has been gradually rolling out across the electric car sector but is still relatively uncommon in vans. This enables faster charging speeds, with a claimed 15% to 80% DC charge time of around 20 minutes. Renault says this can add up to 160 miles of range in that time under optimal conditions.
Load capacity and dimensions
The Trafic E-Tech is designed to retain the practicality expected of a medium-sized van. Renault quotes:
- Load volume of up to 5.8 cubic metres
- Payload of up to 1.25 tonnes
- Towing capacity of up to 2 tonnes
Overall height is limited to 1.90 metres, allowing access to most multi-storey car parks, while a 10.3-metre turning circle is intended to support manoeuvrability in urban use.
In addition to the standard van, the Trafic E-Tech will also be available in chassis-based configurations, including platform cab and conversions such as tippers and flatbeds.

Software and digital features
The new Trafic will be the first Renault van to be compatible with over-the-air updates, meaning that the van be will be able to download software updates and potentially new software features while sitting in the driveway.
The van uses Renault’s ‘OpenR’ infotainment system with a 12-inch central infotainment display. Built-in Google services will be available, along with navigation tailored for commercial use, taking into account vehicle size and load when planning routes and charging stops.
The van also comes with vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) capability. These allow the van to power external equipment or, where supported, return electricity to the grid.
UK debut and timing
The production version of the Renault Trafic E-Tech electric will be shown publicly in the UK for the first time at the Commercial Vehicle Show, held at the NEC Birmingham from 21st to 23rd April 2026. Orders are expected to open later in the year.
Renault says the model will be built in France at its Sandouville plant, with some conversions handled on site or through its network of approved bodybuilders.
