Among a host of new pick-up trucks displayed at the 2016 CV Show, one of the most interesting is on the Fiat Professional stand.
On UK sale in June 2016, the Fullback marks the Italian brand’s entry into the European pick-up market, like many car and van manufacturers reacting to the growing interest in such vehicles.
While the Fullback will find itself up against frenzied competition with many of the established manufacturers launching new or revised versions of their pick-ups, Fiat has chosen a proven route for its contender – under the badges the Fullback is basically the L200 from pick-up specialist Mitsubishi.
The Fiat is powered by a 2.4-litre diesel engine that will be available in either 150 or 180bhp outputs, matched to six-speed manual or five-speed auto gearboxes and full four-wheel drive.
Fullbacks will only be offered as double-cab models, with a payload capacity of 1,045kg.
Two trim levels will be available to UK buyers, and full details of specification and prices will be confirmed closer to the model’s launch, as Fiat bids to take a slice of a UK pick-up market that saw 40,558 registrations in 2015, 20 per cent up on the previous year.
