Volkswagen’s latest Transporter van is now available to order in chassis-cab format.
The sixth-generation version of the vehicle costs from £21,265 (base price excluding VAT), which buys the LWB Single Cab in Startline trim with a 138bhp 2.0TDI diesel engine and six-speed manual gearbox. Seven-speed DSG auto transmission variants are also available.
Single and double cab versions are available, the former offering a payload capacity of up to 1339kg and the latter able to carry up to six occupants.
Volkswagen is emphasizing the potential versatility of the chassis cab Transporter. It can alternatively be ordered direct from the factory with a dropside body, which gives a single-cab loadspace of 5.2 cubic metres, 4.2 cubic metres with a double cab, while the complete range has been developed to complement the range of Crafter chassis and drop-side derivatives that are available through Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ ‘Engineered to Go’ programme.
Volkswagen adds that the chassis cab derivative comes equipped with all of the design and engineering improvements that debuted on the van, design and engineering features, along with new assistance, safety, convenience and comfort systems.
All versions come with Volkswagen’s BlueMotion Technology modifications as standard, including low rolling resistance tyres, regenerative braking and Start/Stop systems.
Standard equipment includes DAB+ digital radio, a five-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth phone connectivity and USB connection, and a safety package topped by the Automatic Post-Collision Braking system, which automatically applies the brakes after a collision, reducing the risk or severity of a secondary impact.
