Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is launching a telematics service aiming to help customers manage their fleets more effectively.
The system, which is being run in partnership with the RAC, will operate on fleets of any size and manage vehicle running costs, increasing efficiency and cutting fleet downtime.
Businesses are also provided with real-time data and reporting through a portal that can be customised to individual customers and accessed using a laptop, tablet or smartphone.
Included in the system are location tracking, driver behaviour, collision detection, vehicle diagnostics, an odometer, geo-fencing (alerting if a vehicle leaves its designated operation area), fuel and CO2 emissions monitoring and a ‘Driverline’ concierge service.
Driverline can be used to book in service and maintenance requirements at a local VW van centre – service alerts also part of the system.
VW says that the telematics package has been developed to be compatible with almost any vehicle in the market and so enables mixed-vehicle fleet customers to manage their entire fleet through one system without needing additional software or hardware costs.
According to VW’s commercial service and parts head Kevin Rendell, more companies are turning to telematics to heal pint he crucial task of managing a cost-effective fleet.
“Our telematics system is a comprehensive solution, which can help companies to reduce fuel costs, extend the life span of parts and components, and optimise vehicle efficiency,” Rendell says.
“It’s been designed to offer the level of quality and technical innovation that our customers expect – it is much more than just a method for tracking driver behaviour and vehicle locations,” he adds.
The telematics units are offered on a monthly contract fee of £12.50 per month excluding VAT for 36 months.
