The new generation family of compact vans from the PSA Group has won the International Van of the Year (IVOTY) Award 2019, presented at the opening of this year’s Hannover commercial vehicle show.

The Citroën Berlingo, Peugeot Partner and Vauxhall/Opel Combo trio took out this year’s largest van award ahead of the new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.

The IVOTY jury was impressed by the combined efforts of the three brands: “The engineers and designers succeeded for the first time in the history of LCVs to create a multi-brand cooperation van, where all brands maintain their core values and brand personality without almost any compromise.

“These vans are redefining the entire segment of modern compact vans, with a fresh approach in design, fit and finish on par with compact cars and a unique feeling of comfort.”

The vans are built on PSA’s EMP2 platform, which also underpins numerous models throughout the Peugeot, Citroën, DS Automobiles and Vauxhall passenger car ranges.

Jarlath Sweeney, IVOTY chairman, described the new arrivals as, “the most significant small panel van development in years.”

“The new PSA Group van trio is well future proofed and packed with technological advancements to aid the driver and financially benefit owners and fleet managers.

“The creation of the overload alert system is a great initiative as it will ensure compliance and enhance safety. All in all, an excellent package, well put together. ”
