Volkswagen has updated the ID. Buzz Cargo with a new battery that brings a longer electric range, more power and a notably lower starting price.
The new 58kWh version replaces the previous 59kWh model, but despite its slightly smaller quoted battery capacity, efficiency improvements to the battery cells increase the van’s WLTP range by 17 miles, from 201 to 218 miles.
Power also rises from 170hp to 190hp, giving businesses a little more performance without compromising range.
ID. Buzz Cargo can now power tools
The update also introduces vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality across the ID. Buzz Cargo range.
A conventional three-pin socket in the load area can provide a continuous 2kW output, with a 3.6kW peak, allowing owners to use the van’s battery to run equipment such as power tools, laptops or even a kettle. The socket is positioned so it can be reached through either the rear or side doors.
Volkswagen has also introduced its ID 6.0 software, bringing an integrated app store and new connected functions. Connected Travel Assist can make greater use of online data and is capable of recognising traffic lights and bringing the van to a halt at a red signal.
Much lower entry price
The new ID. Buzz Cargo 58kWh starts from £30k excluding VAT, which Volkswagen says is nearly a £6k saving when compared to the outgoing 59kWh version.
It also qualifies for the £5k Plug-in Van Grant, further reducing the cost for eligible buyers.
