The Fiat Doblo has been named Van of the Year by specialist web newsletter VansA2Z.

The Doblo triumphed from a strong shortlist that also included the Ford Transit Connect, Mercedes-Benz Citan, Renault Kangoo, Vauxhall Combo and Volkswagen Caddy. Fiat’s newcomer also took the Light Van of the Year trophy.

Unveiled at the 2014 Hannover CV Show, the Doblo is the first van to carry the brand’s Fiat Professional badging. Highlights include a restyled front-end, more responsive and efficient diesel engines and an improved gearshift.

“Fiat’s latest Doblò Cargo is an impressive package that combines good looks with some important practical benefits – that is why we have no hesitation in making it our Van of the Year for 2015,” says VansA2Z.

Other awards at the ceremony in London included Eco Van of the Year, taken by Nissan’s e-NV200 electric van.

The DFSK loadhopper, built in China, was named Micro Van of the Year, the Fiesta Van took the small van prize, its larger sister the Transit Custom triumphed in the small panel van trophy, while the large panel van award also went to the Transit.
