Volkswagen has released the first impressions of its next Amarok pick-up truck, which is scheduled for UK launch before the end of 2016.

The creators of the latest Amarok say it will follow its predecessors in combining car-like road manners with full off-road abilities.

Details of the new model are scarce at present, though we are told it will measure 5.25 metres long and 2.23 metres wide including mirrors.

Visually the more obvious changes are a sportier front end and a more edgy design featuring distinct horizontal and vertical lines in preference to rounded contours.

The interior features major changes to the instrument panel, the emphasis being on giving the pick-up a more premium look.

Industry rumours suggest the new Amarok will be offered with a successor to the twin turbo 2.0-litre diesel engine which in the current version is offered in 124 and 161bhp formats.
