Ford has revealed the latest version of its Transit Custom, with the new model boasting a refreshed design and improved fuel economy.
The updated model offers a new ECOnetic variant, which Ford claims will deliver 148 g/km CO2 emissions and 49.6mpg. This would mark a 6% improvement over the most efficient version of the current vehicle.
On the inside, the cabin has been completely redesigned for improved comfort. There will be up to 25 litres of space in the instrument panel, whilst high-series models will contain an eight-inch colour touchscreen with Ford’s SYNC 3 communications system. The SYNC 3 allows drivers to control audio, navigation and connected smartphones using voice command.
Meanwhile, other technological additions include intelligent speed limiter, which enables automatic adjustment of vehicle speed to remain within legal limits. It will use a traffic sign recognition system to detect speed limits, with the Transit Custom being the first commercial vehicle to offer this feature.
The new Transit Custom will be available to order later this year, and is scheduled for customer delivery in early 2018. A zero-emission capable plug-in hybrid derivative is scheduled for 2019.
